Planning for the Needs of our Aging Population in Bucks County
Speaker: Lynn T. Bush
As Executive Director of the Bucks County Planning Commission, Lynn Bush helps the county plan for the future. The Commission uses a four-step process to organize its thinking:
- Where are we today? Using data, surveys, history, and studies, we try to assess current conditions.
- What are the forces and factors that will influence our future? New development trends, demographics, preferences in the community, limitations of the natural environment, etc.
- Where do we want to be? What are our goals for the future? How do we balance “competing objectives”?
- How do we get there? What steps do we need to take to try to advance our goals?
Lynn will review these topics in a general sense for Bucks County as a whole and then focus on how the Commission looks – or should look – at future needs for the aging population in the county. Lynn’s 93-year old mother is in a long-term care facility, and she often thinks about how such a facility would need to be different to accommodate the upcoming Baby Boomer generation and then the Millennial generation.
Presenter Information: Lynn Bush has been the Executive Director of Bucks County Planning Commission since 1999. Earlier in Lynn’s career she worked for an independent consulting firm, assisting many Bucks County municipalities with planning and zoning work. She was a member of the Bucks County Open Space Task Force from 1996 to 1998, and is a member of the County Planning Directors Association of Pennsylvania. A Bucks County resident since 1971, Lynn is also very involved in the community, participating on the boards of the Ann Silverman Free Clinic, the Bucks County Historical Society and the United Way of Bucks County. Lynn is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of North Carolina, where she received her Master of City and Regional Planning.
